It also aims to transition to a smarter grid by integrating data-driven technologies into transmission and distribution systems, and enhance energy accounting accuracy for informed policy-making on tariffs and subsidies.
Reduce ATC & C Losses
Decrease Aggregate Technical, Commercial, and Collection (ATC&C) losses from over 40% to the global average of 20% within 3 years.
Job Creation
Create over 20,000 jobs for local certified assemblers and trained installers, boosting local employment and skills development.
Increase Revenue
Increase the Nigeria Electricity Supply Industry (NESI) revenue to ₦3 Trillion over a 3-year period, improving liquidity and attracting private capital to the sector.
Governance
The PMI is implemented by a federation-owned entity,PMI-Smart Grid Development Limited (PMI-SGDL).
To ensure proper oversight and guidance, the President has constituted the Board of PMI SGDL with key Federal and States Representatives.

World Bank-funded Nigeria Distribution Sector Recovery Programme (DISREP)
Deploying 3.2 million end-user meters.
Federation Funded Initiative
Supplying 3.8 million end-user meters and 130,000 Distribution Transformer (DT) meters.
Disco Funded Meter Acquisition Fund
Providing 125,000 end-user meters.
Advanced Metering Infrastructure
Implementing technologies to enhance energy accounting and improve revenue assurance.
